New Year. New hair goals.
Some New Year’s resolutions are easier to stick to than others. Peloton every morning at 5 am? Hats off to you. If you’re looking for a resolution that doesn’t involve sweating at sunrise, your hair may be a good place to start. Better hair is one thing but we truly believe caring for your hair goes deeper than that - it’s about making time for yourself, self-confidence and taking a wider approach to wellness. We’ve gathered some ideas so now all you have to do is pick one (and stick with it!):
Styling-free Sunday - Every week have at least one day set aside where you don’t use any hot tools. Embrace your natural texture (or tie your hair back in a loose bun).
Rebook your next appointment - Have your appointments booked regularly ahead, it’s an easy way to stay accountable for looking after your hair.
Refine your routine - Hair care ingredients are commonly designed to work in harmony in a routine for maximum results. Mixing a salon shampoo with a supermarket conditioner can dampen results, instead speak to your stylist about implementing a cohesive system for the New Year.
Pack in more protein - Add a protein-rich snack to your diet every day, e.g. nuts, hummus, a protein shake. Good for your body but also hair, as low protein levels can lead to breakage and slow growth.
Carry a reusable water bottle everywhere you go - Healthy hair needs protein and plenty of H2O. Carry a reusable water bottle everywhere you go and vow to refill it several times a day.
30 minutes. Do not disturb - Invest in a luxury treatment as part of a self-care mantra (we love ELEVEN Australia MIRACLE MASK and KEVIN.MURPHY YOUNG.AGAIN.MASQUE). While the treatment is working its magic, put your phone on do not disturb mode and team that time with another resolution e.g. reading more books or meditation.
Now you’ve made your New Year’s resolutions, it's time to bring them to life. We asked Leadership Coach Joel Bouzaid (@joelbouzaid) for some tips for success - wise words no matter if your goals are hair focussed or half-marathon!
- Awareness - Your brain doesn’t like change so only the committed will succeed.
- Understanding - Three must-haves for goal getting include peer support, emotional consequence and visual accountability.
- Choices - Do it with friends, publicly declare your goals and what happens if you don’t follow through and make sure every day you are crossing off your progress.
