MANE's Winter Hair Guide
Frizzy locks, a dry scalp and gosh, hat hair are some of the downsides of the changing of the season. But it’s not all doom and gloom. Our team have compiled their top winter hair care tips for a healthy and glossy mane, come rain or shine:
- 1) EMBRACE CHANGE
While you may not be ready to take on Miley’s mullet (and if you are, we applaud you and are here to make it happen), there are plenty of winter hair trends to embrace from polished bobs to textured warm balayages. Whether you are looking to tweak your style or redefine your look, our stylists are excited to discuss trends, changes and ideas - big or small - with you
- 2 ) INVEST IN AN INTENSE MASQUE
Your hair can get just as dry in the winter as it does in the summer. With moisture in the air and in the rain, the hair's protective layer (known as the cuticle) opens up making it go fluffy. Hair becomes more dehydrated moving from the damp and cold outside into warm and dry heating. Invest in an intense masque, like Kevin Murphy HYDRATE-ME.MASQUE to rescue parched locks. It’s rich in essential oils and vitamins, including Omega 6 and has a potent shea butter formula which delivers an intense moisture hit.
- 3 ) COVER UP
There’s a lot of good in keeping your hair covered and protected from the wind and rain - but there’s also a lot of static (and hat hair) that comes with it. Switch to a silk scarf to cover up and try washing your hair in lukewarm water to also help combat static.
- 4 ) DON'T SKIMP THE TRIM
Split ends are a year round problem, but winter heating, dampness and wind can exacerbate them. The best way to keep on top of split ends, is to nip them in the bud with regular trims.
- 5 ) LESS IS MORE
When it comes to shampooing, your hair will benefit from a break - especially in winter. This means not washing your hair every day and also giving heat styling tools some downtime. For those in between days Kevin Murphy FRESH.HAIR will remove excess oil and odours, and works beautifully teamed with YOUNG.AGAIN DRY CONDITIONER to nourish and restore softness.
- 6 ) FEED YOUR SCALP
Winter can make dry scalps drier and itchier, which can lead to dandruff. It’s important to give your scalp some extra TLC at this time of year by using high-quality, targeted home haircare - like Kevin Murphy BALANCING.WASH which is antioxidant-rich. Also, remember good hydration starts from the inside out, so ensure that you're drinking as much water in the winter as you are in the summer.
